The Future of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM): AI, Hybrid IT, and the Power of Collective Intelligence

Oomnitza announced something I’m incredibly excited about: our new DCIM solution.

If you missed the press release, I encourage you to check it out here. I want to take a moment to look back on the journey that led us to this. We’ve learned so much from our customers and industry analysts, and we’re eager to share how this new solution will not only deliver unparalleled real-time visibility and control over your data center assets but also give you a competitive AI edge.

Let’s talk about why we built this, what we’ve learned along the way, and where we’re headed next.

AI, Hybrid IT, and the New Data Center Reality

If there’s one constant in enterprise technology, it’s change. And nowhere is that more evident than in data centers.

A few years ago, we were talking about cloud-first strategies—a race to the cloud, driven by agility and cost savings. But today? Today the conversation has shifted. Enterprises are no longer just cloud-first. They are hybrid-first.

According to Gartner, 90% of enterprises will operate hybrid cloud models by 2027. Why? Because AI, regulatory requirements, and cost constraints are forcing IT leaders to rethink their architectures.

In fact, 70% of IT leaders believe it is difficult to achieve a successful digital transformation without a robust hybrid cloud strategy. They understand some workloads are best in the cloud, while others need to remain on-premises or in colocation facilities.

The challenge is managing it all.

Addressing Expansion

AI infrastructure is driving data center expansion at an unprecedented rate. Mckinsey claims that global demand for data center capacity could rise at an annual rate of between 19-22% by 2030 to meet annual demand. Traditional DCIMs can’t keep up with that pace.

Power-hungry GPUs and AI clusters are changing the way IT leaders think about capacity planning, energy efficiency, and asset lifecycle management.

Concerns About Complexity

Hybrid IT is creating complexity. Without full visibility into on-prem, colocation, and cloud assets—and the ability to optimize costs across them–IT leaders face security concerns, compliance issues, and cost overruns.

They need a way to seamlessly integrate with ITSM, CMDBs, ERP, and cloud management platforms and track physical and virtual infrastructure across their entire ecosystem.

Increasing Regulations

New regulations, like the EU’s Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), are forcing enterprises to track their power usage, carbon footprint, and sustainability metrics like never before.

Even certain states are taking measures to manage data center energy usage in efforts to preserve electrical grids, meaning IT leaders need to lean heavier into hybrid structures to align with these new initiatives.

When it comes to tackling these challenges, none of us is as smart as all of us. At Oomnitza, that’s one of our core philosophies. We don’t build products in a vacuum. We listen, we iterate, and we evolve based on what our customers, partners, and analysts tell us.

We’ve been having deep conversations with some of the world’s leading IT organizations, analysts, and colocation providers about how they’re managing hybrid IT. One takeaway stands out above others: Traditional DCIM solutions aren’t enough anymore.

What Your Peers Said:

  • Visibility is critical, but it’s not enough. IT teams need real-time automation—tracking not just where assets are, but their performance, their cost, and when they should be decommissioned.
  • Cloud and on-prem should be managed together—not separately. The old world of managing physical data center assets in one system and cloud resources in another? That’s broken. Enterprises need a unified hybrid IT asset management platform.
  • Regulatory compliance is becoming a top priority. Whether it’s GDPR, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or the EU’s new energy efficiency reporting mandates, IT leaders need automated compliance tracking to avoid fines and optimize energy usage.

Where We're Headed Next

The launch of our Data Center Infrastructure Management solution is just the beginning. As we continue to partner with customers, analysts, and industry leaders, we’re already working on the next evolution of data center and hybrid IT management.

As our CEO Robert Potter puts it, “Our Data Center Infrastructure Management solution equips IT leaders with the agility and control they need to scale AI workloads without spiraling costs or operational chaos.”

Let’s build the future of data center infrastructure management—together.
